About Candidate

The PlayOn Foundation is a grassroots initiative that aims to leverage team sports as a tool for socioeconomic development amongst Ugandan youths. The target population of PlayOn’s intervention is youth-athletes in the districts of Kampala and Wakiso, who engage in sport for recreational purposes or who aspire to a career in sport. As a grassroots organisation, PlayOn draws on societal perspectives to address key issues affecting youth athletes. As a result, PlayOn focuses on three key issues affecting youth-athletes; mental health struggles, physical health challenges, and gender disparities in grassroots sport. In particular, increasing the levels of female participation in Ugandan grassroot sport is a key node of PlayOn’s intervention plan. PlayOn also aims to raise awareness on the mental and physical health benefits of sport, increase public participation in organised grassroots sport, and optimise the talents and performances of student-athletes in Kampala and Wakiso.
